Electronic Cigarette - What is it?

Electronic Cigarette, it you do not know, is the buzzword amongst most of the smokers' circles today.

If you have been a smoking cigarettes for the past few years, you must have been one to have known and experienced most of the ill effects that come with smoking tobacco, yet you know how difficult it is to give up smoking traditional cigarettes. After many attempts of quitting, you may still unfortunately continue to light up one.

There indeed have been several nicotine alternatives including pills, patches, gums, potions and even lozenges. Chances are that you have tried them, but you would have given up smoking if only they didn't give you those nicotine cravings. Unfortunately, majority of these products could not help you, but rather increase your nicotine cravings and leave you with the desire to smoke more than before.

Electronic cigarette; however, is a promising innovation as a satisfying smoking alternative so that smokers may simply switch over, without having to quit, and without having to go through the nicotine withdraw symptoms that so many of us fear. We also do not need to worry about the consequences of smoking tobacco.

So what is this electronic cigarette?

An electronic cigarette as the name says is an electronic smoking device that mimics all features of a real cigarette but without the burning tobacco. Thanks to smoking ban laws an innovation like this has seen light of the day.

Electronic cigarette looks as true as a real cigarette but comprises of a cartridge, an atomizer, and a battery with an LED tip. The cartridge looks like the "butt" of the cigarette but it holds e liquid which is composed of propylene glycol, water, and nicotine suspended through a membranous system. The mixture is atomized to resemble smoke by the atomizer once the battery is triggered and illuminates.

How is the electronic cigarette lit?

Electronic cigarette does not require a lighter to light. Instead, the air drawn by the smoker creates a pressure inside the cigarette to ignite the processor and heats up the atomizer, thus vaporizing the e liquid stored inside the cartridge. The liquid mixture (propylene glycol, flavorings, and nicotine) from the cartridge is injected into the atomizer to vaporize. This "smokeless" vapor is then inhaled by the user. The propylene glycol is dense enough to provide the "smoke-like" mist when vaporized, and the user receives an immediate nicotine feedback. The vapor exhaled is nicotine-free and it does not associate wit passive smoking symptoms. The end of the electronic cigarette lights up (LED tip) when inhaled, truly creates a closely resembling effect of smoking a traditional cigarette.

Major chemical cocktail of the electronic cigarette is propylene glycol. FDA approves propylene glycol as generally safe for human consumption. To improve the flavor, manufacturers and tobacco scent and other flavors that are carcinogen free. Again, electronic cigarette is no quit smoking product and but it is rather a solution to people who would want to feel the nicotine kick in no smoke zones and to elimate the ill effects of smoking tobacco cigarettes.
